Activities
Cub Scouts is an achievement-based program that is a fun way for your child to build confidence and character by learning new skills, participating in unique experiences, and making lasting friendships.
Scouts learn outdoor skills, about healthy living, serving their community as leaders, and more. Fun activities provide opportunities throughout the year for the whole family to bond through shared values and an appreciation for the outdoors.
Scout & Family Events
- Pinewood Derby: Pinewood Derby Racing is a long-standing tradition. Scouts are provided with a starter kit, the tools, and the guidance to customize their own pinewood derby car and compete in a variety of pack-wide categories.
- Camporee (Webelos): Each year, the Webelos den (4th grade) competes with other cub scouts packs in outdoor events.
- Family Campouts: Families have opportunities to go camping and to participate in outdoor adventures twice per year at Scout’s facilities near the Greater Los Angeles area. Camp activities include hiking, climbing, swimming, archery, bb guns, arts & crafts, and learning about nature and the environment.
- Annual Fishing Trip: Chartered fishing expedition day trip that leaves out of Marina Del Rey.
- Mochitsuki: Pack 79 participates in the Venice Buddhist Temple’s annual mochitsuki, a traditional Japanese ceremony of pounding steamed glutinous rice into mochi, or rice cakes. It’s celebratory communal event, most often performed to ring in the Japanese New Year.
Community Service
- Coastal Cleanup: Part of cub scouts is learning to respect and care for our environment. Pack 79 participates in the annual coastal cleanup day, helping to clean our waterways and beaches.
- Dana Deliveries for Seniors: Members of Pack 79 gather, package, and deliver food to seniors in our community affiliated with the Venice Buddhist Temple.
- Memorial Day Flag Placement: Pack 79 shows our respect to the brave men and women who have fought for the country via participation in the annual Memorial Day Flag Placement.
- Food Donations: A few times per year, our pack gathers and distributes food for members of our community experiencing food insecurity.
- VJCC Summer Festival & VHBT Obon Festival: Pack 79 runs a game booth at the Venice Japanese Community Center (VJCC) Summer Festival as well as Venice Buddhist Temple’s Obon festival to gather donations for these organizations.
Den Activities
In addition to the Pack events, each Den meets separately each month to focus on activities and adventures that advance the goals of each scout.
